On Wednesday, the social media big daddy, Meta, announced new features for the company’s media first platform, Instagram.

One new feature is Reposting, just like Mastodon, Threads, and really any text-first social platform has a button called Repost or Boost. When reposting, the original poster will be credited. Post and Reels will now have a repost button.

The new Map feature, which has to be enabled by the user, but when it is, Instagram will share your last active location (the last time the app was open). You can set who can see your location and set it to not share your location when you are at a specific location.

The new friends tab shows public content from your contacts. You can opt out of having your content displayed and have options to hide likes, comments, and reposts.
