In a short livestream on Thursday, OpenAI announced ChatGPT Agent, an improvement from Operator.

Here is how it works:

In short, OpenAI basically combined Operator, which already had advanced browsing capabilities, and added Deep Research.

When you use Agent, a circular machine is spun up, and it just… well, does what you want it to do. You can ask it follow-up questions, and it can ask you to provide login information to automatically sign into other services. The best part is, users can take over at any point.

ChatGPT Agent basically combines text-based browsing with the power of Deep Research, and it has its own terminal to generate and analyze code and data. It can also use APIs to communicate with services like GitHub, Google Drive, and Dropbox.

Another extremely useful feature is the timeline tool. It provides the user with a timeline of its browsing and reasoning.

Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO, says Agent is rolling out today for Pro users and is coming “very soon” for Plus and Team users.
