Roblox is adding a new age verification feature that will scan your face or government ID letting users chat more freely with other users who are 13+.

The new feature prompts the user to scan there face in a video selfie form “which is analyzed against a large and diverse dataset to estimate their age,” says this blog post form Matt Kaufman.

“If the system is not able to estimate the user’s age with high confidence, then the user’s age will remain unconfirmed and the user won’t be able to access Trusted Connections,” If a user doesn’t pass the age estimation tool but they are actually over 13, they will be able to confirm their age via ID verification “and, in the future, verified parental consent.”

This is done via third party company Persona the same company Bluesky is using for their users.

Like Reddit and Bluesky, Roblox is doing this for one to make their platform safer and two to company with the U.K.s online safety act.
